Tasting notes
Color: clear, deep black cherry colour, with violet rims and fine legs.
Nose: clean on the nose with pronounced intensity and remarkable ripe fruit aromas, perfectly mingled with some spicy notes and subtle sweet undertones of cacao.
Palate: vibrant, well-balanced wine with a nice structure and integrated tannins from its ageing in oak barrels. A rich mouthful of ripe red fruit and silky palate. Rich and fresh in style, with a well-balanced acidity and an elegant and good finish.
Vintage: The Control Board officially rated the 2011 Rioja vintage as ‘Excellent’ and places this vintage among the top three since the current quality control system was implemented in Rioja thirty years ago. The final quality of the 2011 harvest is due to good vine development across the wine region with low incidence of pests and disease and excellent canopy development and health right through to the end of the growing season, despite some drought. The exceptional health of the grapes was facilitating seamless fermentations and very promising, well-structured, healthy wines with good colour levels. Very moderate production yields (the lowest since 2002) were key factors in order to reach the excellent rating for the second year in a row. Only eight vintages have been rated ‘excellent’ in Rioja in the last thirty years.
Grape variety: 100% Tempranillo
Food Parings: Pairs with all kinds of food because it’s savory. Roasted vegetables and cured meats, lasagna, pizza or even Mexican food.
