The handpicked and carefully selected grapes in boxes of 15 kg come from our 3 single vineyard plots: "El Consul”, “La Misela” and “Terrazas”.
Marqués de Vargas subscribes to the environmentally friendly concept and practice of sustainable winegrowing. Herbicides and pesticides are not used in our vineyards.
The wine is made traditionally according to the old-world methods side by side with the latest technology. The wine is bottled without any fining or filtering, resulting in an unprocessed and fully natural wine.
Winemaker: Ana Barrón
Vineyard: "El Cónsul” (7 ha), “La Misela” (3 ha), “Terrazas” (7 ha) with the average age of bush vines of 44 years and free draining, poor, shallow and infertile calcareous –clay soils sufficiently high in organic matter and adequate nutrient holding capacity.
Varietals: Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha
Winemaking: Classic with destemming, each parcel is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks (10,000 Kg) for 11 days at controlled temperatures at 30ºC. Daily remontage and pumping over to obtain the desired balance of fruit and tannin extraction, the wine rests 14 days in skin contact after fermentation. The malolactic fermentation takes then partly place in new oak barrels.
Ageing: 18 months in new French oak barrels. Reserva. Regular racking every 4 months at the beginning, then every 6 months
